Overview of Lak Lake
Lak Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Dak Lak province and the second largest in Vietnam, located in Lien Son Lak Commune, approximately 48 km south of Buon Ma Thuot. Covering an area of about 6.2 km² at an altitude of over 500m, it boasts pristine, romantic beauty and the unique culture of the M’nong people.

Lak Lake in Dak Lak
The Lak Lake is surrounded by numerous hills and mountains, especially upstream by the Chu Yang Sin mountain range, whose peak reaches 2,442m above sea level, and vast primeval forests with rich and diverse flora and fauna. Thanks to this, the water source in Lak Lake rarely dries up, even during the dry season in the Central Highlands.
Surrounding Lake Lak are vast rice paddies interspersed with villages of the M’nong people, who have lived there for generations, such as Le village, Jun village, and M’Lieng village, which still retain the pristine beauty of the Central Highlands. The indigenous M’nong people here still preserve many unique traditional cultural values, such as gong and drum performances, folk singing and dancing, making and drinking rice wine, traditional brocade weaving, and basket weaving. Especially, they also raise elephants, a symbol of the majestic Central Highlands.

Located on a beautiful hill beside Lake Lak is the Bao Dai Palace, where the last king of the Nguyen dynasty stayed when he and his family came to Buon Ma Thuot for vacation and hunting.
Therefore, Lak Lake has become an attractive and well-known tourist destination, not only in Dak Lak but also in the Central Highlands. Every year, a large number of domestic and international tourists come here to admire the poetic beauty of Lak Lake and explore the unique traditional culture of the M’nong people living around the lake.
