Famous for the sweet and velvety lyrics of the folk song, few people know that Ganh Hao coastal town (Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province) is also an interesting tourist destination. If you have the opportunity, visitors can spend a whole day exploring Ganh Hao, an old and small coastal town in the South of the Fatherland.
From Bac Lieu city, visitors can most conveniently reach Ganh Hao by the coastal road with a distance of nearly 40km. Currently, in Ganh Hao, there are also a few small-scale hotels and motels that can serve visitors.
Thien Hau Temple and Nam Hai Tomb
The most famous place in Ganh Hao town is the relic group of Thien Hau Temple and Nam Hai Tomb. Both of these worshiping beliefs are typical of many coastal communities in general and Ganh Hao in particular. Here, visitors can visit and learn more about the long-standing cultural and religious life of the Ganh Hao people, including the small Chinese community.
In this area, visitors will admire the largest whale in Vietnam, which has been embalmed intact and preserved for decades. Although the whale worshiping tradition appears a lot in coastal communities in the South and Central regions, most of them are just whale bones. In Ganh Hao alone, people have taken great pains to embalm and preserve intact dozens of tons of whales for worship. In addition, this festival also attracts a lot of tourists.
Enjoy local specialties
The Ganh Hao embankment (also known as the sea dike) is built quite solidly, surrounding the river and sea sides of the town, stretching about 5km. There are many restaurants serving coastal specialties to tourists. A small note, like many other coastal areas in the Southwest, Ganh Hao beach is not suitable for swimming.
At Ganh Hao embankment, visitors can see the sea and wind turbines, a “specialty” of Bac Lieu land. Although there are not hundreds of wind turbines like Nha Mat, Hoa Binh, these wind turbines also help make the town more beautiful, besides the renewable energy source.
In addition to coastal seafood, when coming to Ganh Hao in particular and this southern land of the Fatherland in general, visitors can enjoy sea calendars. From the outside, sea calendars have a similar shape to eels but live in brackish coastal water environments. Sea calendars are sold by people everywhere in Ganh Hao as well as other places in Bac Lieu, Ca Mau.
