About Tac Say Church
Established in 1925, in hamlet 2, Phong Thanh commune, Ca Mau province, Tac Say Church includes two main structures: the church and priest Diep’s mausoleum. The church is located about 37 kilometers from the center of Bac Lieu ward.
The origin of the name Tac Say (Vietnamese: Tắc Sậy), according to the local language, is because in the past there was a small shortcut (Vietnamese: lối tắt, đường tắt) that passed through the church, located in the middle of the reeds (reeds in Vietnamese means: sậy), pronounced by Southerners, gradually changing the sound “tắt” to “tắc“.

Architecture of Tac Say Church
Tac Say Church has a unique architecture consisting of 3 floors: the ground floor is a resting place for guests, the 2nd and 3rd floors are where the Mass is held with a very large lobby. This place is built in Asian architecture but still retains the beauty of Vietnamese culture.

The building has the same shape as traditional temples of the Vietnamese. However, there are details that have been innovated. Inside the sanctuary space is decorated with precious wood that has been sculpted, making this place more sacred and solemn. In addition, inside the church are also displayed many precious wooden statues. There is a wooden statue up to 2.5m high and is carved very delicately and meticulously.

Father Diep’s tomb is located in the church grounds, with a strong Asian style. The highlight of this project is the 3-roof structure, each with 3 curved tiled roofs (the middle roof is the highest) reminiscent of the roofs of traditional Vietnamese communal houses and pagodas. Father Diep’s tomb is built of marble in accordance with Catholic tradition. There are many statues of saints and statues of Father Diep made of precious wood.

With its unique architecture, and the touching story of the life of Father Diep – who sacrificed his life for the faith to save his parishioners, Tac Say Church has become a religious destination attracting thousands of believers and tourists to visit and pray to him. Every year, on March 11 and 12 – Diep’s death anniversary, many people have been coming to visit his tomb.
