Elephant Waterfall, located on the outskirts of Da Lat, consistently impresses visitors with its pristine beauty amid the mountains and forests, making it a must-see for tourists visiting the land of a thousand flowers.
Elephant Waterfall is one of the three largest waterfalls in Lam Dong province, situated about 28km southwest of Da Lat. Officially named Lieng Rơwoa, the waterfall is often called Elephant Waterfall because the giant rocks beneath have been eroded by the water into the smooth backs of wild elephants.
From a height of 30 meters, a massive cascade of water rushes down, creating a roaring sound that echoes across the sky, forming a giant curtain of water up to 40 meters wide. Surrounding the waterfall are large rocks shaped like elephants, creating a wild and poetic scene. This unspoiled landscape is a unique combination of land, sky, and lush green forest.
There are a total of 145 steps from the foot of the waterfall to the top. If you enter from the tourist area’s gate, turn left onto a 20-meter-long concrete road. After walking to the end of this road, a magical scene will unfold before your eyes – the entire waterfall will be clearly visible. Ancient trees, precarious cliffs, lush greenery, and cool, fresh air create a breathtaking view.
At the foot of Elephant Waterfall lies a cave, located 50 meters below ground level. The cave entrance is hidden by dense, overgrown vegetation and tangled vines. Although the entrance is somewhat narrow, the interior space is quite spacious with strangely shaped rock formations and a cool, refreshing atmosphere.
This is one of the few waterfalls that retain their pristine beauty in the Central Highlands. The best time to visit Elephant Waterfall is in the morning, during the dry season (April to April of the following year). In 2001, Elephant Waterfall was recognized as a national historical and scenic site.
