Explore Ba Vi National Park

With an area of nearly 11,000 hectares, Ba Vi National Park is considered the “green lung” of western Hanoi. In the national park, there are tourist attractions such as the ancient abandoned church, covered with moss and mysterious, or the cactus greenhouse.

If you do not drive to the top of the mountain, the 2-4-hour Ba Vi Forest Trek is suitable for those who prefer light trekking. The path leads through trails through dense primeval forests or towering bamboo forests.

The French once built many resort villas in Ba Vi, but over time, these structures have been severely damaged. Therefore, visitors will be amazed by the architectural foundations dating back hundreds of years when going deep into the forest. The resorts, the stoves, and the walls are all covered by forest trees and mountain mist.

At level 600, the colonel’s residence is a typical French architectural work in Ba Vi, still quite intact. There is a barbed wire fence, a stone wall surrounding it, more than 2 m high, 0.5 m thick, and some medium-sized machine gun emplacements.

Going a little further up is the summer camp for French children and colonial government officials, including 4 level-4 houses, solidly built of stone. Located in the middle of a natural forest with many large trees, such as oak and chestnut, hanging orchids create a poetic, magical scene, attracting tourists to visit and take pictures.

The collapsed church is located at an altitude of 800 m, in the middle of the old forest canopy. Abandoned for many years, the roof of the church is gone, leaving the gloomy church among the dense foliage.

On the wall, the cross is covered with a nostalgic color, reflecting the silvery afternoon sunlight through the window. Here, the fog is always lurking, occasionally descending to cover the church. The green of moss, the gray of mold, and the silver of fog create a magical space.

At the 800th level, the French also built an orphanage with typical windows and domes. The desolate ruins left behind, along with the lichen covering each cliff and wall crevice, add to the ancient mossiness of the structures here.

In particular, at an altitude of 1,000-1,100 m on the western slope of Tan Vien peak is a secret political prison system solidly built to imprison revolutionary soldiers. The prison was divided into 3 areas: the first was for prison guards; the second and third were where prisoners were detained. With a total area of ​​nearly 1,000 m², the prison system in Ba Vi can detain 100-200 prisoners.

Thuong Temple

The Thuong Temple is a spiritual relic site located at the top of Tan Vien Mountain. Visitors can also challenge themselves by climbing 500 steps to the mountain’s summit. This is the place to worship the Saint of Tan Vien Mount – Son Tinh. On the mount, visitors can stay in a stilt house and dine at a restaurant specializing in roast chicken, steamed fish, and grilled meat. Upon arrival, visitors will see the Heavenly waterfall, more than 60 m high, pouring down the mountainside to create a natural swimming pool 1.5-2 m deep.

Visitors who like to bathe in the stream should wear a life jacket and pay attention to safety if they do not know how to swim. Because the experience at Thien Mount – Nga Stream is close to nature, visitors should apply insect repellent and watch out for snakes, centipedes, and other wildlife.

Ao Vua

Ao Vua is a tourist area located at the foot of Tan Vien mountain, in Bat Dam village, Tan Linh commune, Ba Vi district. Ao Vua is a small pond, but it is full of water year-round. According to legend, the water in Ao Vua was originally raised by the “King of Water” to fight his enemy. This place also has Mui Guom, well known for the story of the King sticking his sword down the mountain so that soldiers could dig a well to get water when fighting the enemy.

Currently, Ao Vua has been developed into a tourist area, with a resort area, entertainment, and a water park featuring activities such as mountain climbing, wading in streams, and boating. This place has clear blue water and open space, making it very suitable for those who want to escape the dust of the city and find a peaceful place.

Khoang Xanh – Tien Stream

Khoang Xanh is located on the eastern slope of Ba Vi Mountain, in an area of primeval forest, and is part of the Ba Vi National Park complex. Khoang Xanh has many primeval forests and over 2 km of natural streams. In the summer, beautiful waterfalls such as Mo waterfall, Hoa waterfall, Tran waterfall, and Mam Xoi waterfall pour down from the mountains day and night.
