Implementing the direction of the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Public Security’s leadership on the continuation of the “automatic visa extension” for foreigners affected by the Covid-19 epidemic that cannot leave the country yet, Immigration Department announced on Monday 3rd August 2020:
1. Foreigners who entered Vietnam on the basis of visa exemption; entry on e-visas or tourist visas from March 1, 2020, till now continue to “automatic visa extension” until the end of August 31, 2020, may exit during the above period without having to extend their stay permit. In case for those who entered Vietnam before March 1, 2020, that person has to prove to be stuck due to Covid-19 epidemic, accompanied by a diplomatic Note (with Vietnamese translation) from the relevant diplomatic mission, or a written document from the relevant Vietnamese authorities on quarantine…are also considered to apply “automatic visa extension” until August 31, 2020. You must submit these confirmation document above on departure date from Vietnam.
2. During the automatic visa extension period, foreigners are required to complete the temporary residence and health status declaration.
3. Those who are not subject to paragraphs 1 and 2 of this guidance or those who have breached the laws will be treated according to applicable laws of Vietnam.
