Ban Gioc Fall is considered a place of majestic scenery, like a fairyland on the Quay Son River in Cao Bang. This is known as the most beautiful fall in Vietnam, with successive fall levels, stretching hundreds of meters.
One of the most beautiful falls in the world
Ban Gio Fall is located in Dam Thuy Commune, Cao Bang Province, along the Quay Son River; the eastern half of the right fall falls under China’s sovereignty in Daxin County, Guangxi. The Quay Son River originates in China and flows into Vietnam at landmark 784 in the Po Peo area, Dinh Phong Commune. After pouring down to the foot of the waterfall, the river turns completely into Chinese territory.

Ban Gioc is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam and is currently the 4th-largest waterfall along a national border, after Iguazu Falls, Victoria Falls, and Niagara Falls. Every year, this waterfall welcomes many domestic and foreign tourists to visit and admire the majesty of this waterfall.

Ban Gioc Fall is repeatedly immortalized in art, specifically in original paintings and photography. Many photographers have come here to record the unique beauty of the fall, and thousands of beautiful photos have been created. Each person chooses the most unique and beautiful angles for themselves.

In 2024, Ban Gioc Fall was listed among the 21 most beautiful waterfalls in the world by the prestigious American travel magazine Travel + Leisure. Ban Gioc Fall ranked 17th, the only Vietnamese representative on the list announced in mid-May.
Admire the masterpiece of nature in Ban Gioc Fall
In Vietnamese, the two falls are considered two parts of one waterfall, collectively named Bản Giốc. The two parts are thac chinh (main waterfall) and thac phu (subordinate waterfall). According to the 1999 treaty between Vietnam and China, the secondary waterfall belongs entirely to Vietnam, and the main waterfall is divided in half.

From a distance, the waterfall pours down, creating a white foam area that gives us a sense of wildness yet is extremely magnificent. In the middle of the fall, a rock landing covered by trees divides the stream into three and creates a thin mist that cools the air.

At the foot of the waterfall is a wide river, and the water’s surface is as calm as a mirror. On both sides of the bank are clear grass carpets still covered with dew, patches of dense green forest.

Visitors can easily walk around the base of the fall, enjoy it, and take artistic photos with the natural mountains and forests. Besides, right at the foot of the fall, there is a small dam. The clear water, free of dust from the waterfall, will flow here. In addition, to have more unique and direct experiences with the water, tourists can rent a raft to travel on the Quay Son River, which costs from 50.000 VND.
