Cu Chi Tunnel is one of the most famous historical vestiges of Viet Nam’s national liberation war during 1945 – 1975. It’s located about 70 km to the northwest of Ho Chi Minh city – centre. The first parts of short and simple tunnels were established in 1948 in two communes of in north of Củ Chi District. The network consists of approximately 250km of tunnels connected with one another like a spider’s web. This is a unique and incomparable underground village was used with a lot of work from food and ammunition storage caches, medical care chambers, commanding chambers, meeting chambers, bedrooms, cooking by Hoàng Cầm stoves…. Those who set food in the tunnels cannot help admiring the talent, determination and endurance of the communist guerrillas. They dug and removed tens of thousands of tons of soil and stone with rudimentary tools, and then camouflaged the openings so well that nobody could find them. After about 1 and a half hour of driving, you will arrive Ben Duoc. The tunnel where soldiers lived and fought during the war was ranked as a National Historical and Cultural Monument in 1979. Starting the tour, you stop at the Weapons Gallery. Here, you will see the bombs and artillery used by the US military on the Cu Chi battlefield and the weapons used by Cu Chi guerrillas in the resistance war. In addition, visitors can also take photos with tanks, airplanes and wartime guerrilla models. You move to the Cinema Room. Here, you can watch a short documentary about the guerrilla war, hear about the history of formation and development of the Cu Chi tunnel system; how fierce the war was in the area, and be briefly introduced by the tour guide about the structure of the underground tunnel system through the tunnel cross-section diagram. Leaving the Cinema Room, you continue your journey to explore Ben Duoc Tunnels and stop to visit the highlights within the relic site such as: 15m-deep water well located inside the tunnel, ventilation hole wind disguised as termite mounds, secret bunker covers, trenches, spike trap… Continuing to move, the tour guide will take you to visit the tunnel system and experience tunneling activities to explore “life underground”. Here, you will be able to set foot down to explore unique and impressive tunnel projects such as: hospital, meeting room, office room, rest room, secretary room… After the tunnel experience activity, you continue to visit Hoang Cam stove. Here, you will witness with your own eyes a very creative invention in hiding smoke by Vietnamese soldiers at that time. Then you stop to rest, wash your hands with the unique hand sanitizer system and be treated to cassava dipped in salt and beans – an old guerrilla dish that has now become a specialty. Continuing, the tour guide will take you to visit the military equipment – uniforms – making sandals and a workshop area that produces self-made weapons, booby traps… displayed here. Leaving the workshop, you stop at the souvenir counter. Here, you will be free to visit and enjoy shopping for unique gifts made from bullet shells such as: oil lamps, lighters, ballpoint pens, straps and lacquer items, high-end fine arts, products from traditional craft villages in Cu Chi made of rattan, bamboo or leaf. Continuing the journey, you will come to National Defense Sports Shooting Area. Here, you will have the opportunity to participate in thrilling challenges with extremely interesting and exciting real bullet shooting activities with an AK47, MK16or machine guns (Please note that ticket prices do not include this cost).
