Overview of Voi Mountain
Voi (Elephant) Mountain is the highest mountain in Hai Phong, located on the banks of the Lach Tray River, about 20 km southwest of the Hai Phong city center. Voi Mountain is a poetic scenic spot in the middle of a fertile plain.

The mountain in Hai Phong has an ideal climate, allowing visitors to enjoy it comfortably at any time of the year. However, the best time to visit is in the fall and summer because the weather is very nice and cool. In particular, on the full moon day of the first lunar month every year, Voi Mountain will hold many bustling and crowded festivals.
Explore Voi Mountain
Visiting Voi Mountain in Hai Phong, visitors will witness many rich and pristine cave systems, such as Long Tien Cave, Nam Tai Cave, Ca Chep Cave, and Hong Voi Cave. These caves all have very complex structures with many layers of stalactites and stalagmites. The caves of Voi Mountain have a long history and still retain their wild beauty.

In addition, to the south of Voi Mountain, there are two other caves, Nam Tao Cave and Bac Dau Cave. According to the myth, Nam Tao and Bac Dau are two deities who oversee life and death. Entering the caves, you will admire the wonders of nature, including many thousands-of-years-old stalagmites with strange shapes. It is not difficult for you to imagine the shapes of stalactites like the head of an elephant, tigers lying down, a kneeling dragon … in a very interesting way.

Voi Mountain in Hai Phong also attracts many great archaeological sites. According to many documents, Voi Mountain is one of the largest remaining works of the Dong Son culture, with a long history of about 2,500 years in Vietnam. That is why this place attracts many domestic and foreign archaeologists to explore.
Visit many unique spiritual works
Besides the majestic high rocky mountains and the fascinating cave system, Voi Mountain is also a spiritual tourist destination in Hai Phong with many cultural works, such as Long Hoa Pagoda and Chi Lai Communal House.
Chi Lai Communal House is a communal house built in the 19th century with ancient architecture. The entire interior is made of wood and features sophisticated, unique carvings.

Long Hoa Pagoda was built in the 11th century during the Ly Dynasty, a site that has endured many historical ups and downs and is closely associated with the development of Hai Phong. Currently, Long Hoa Pagoda has been restored with a total area of 7.5 hectares, including 40 construction items in the traditional cultural and artistic architectural style. In the main hall, there is a statue of Buddha Sakyamuni, weighing 15 tons of bronze, recognized as the largest Buddha statue in Hai Phong.

At the foot of the mountain, there is a shrine where the local people worship Le Chan, a female general in the army of the Trung sisters. She also established An Bien village, which is now Hai Phong City.

The Fairy Chess Board
Op the top of the mountain, there is a flat area of land called “Fairy Chess Board”. This is also the remaining trace of the temple and citadels from the 16th-century Mac Dynasty.

At this site, archaeologists have found many relics of ancient Vietnamese civilization, such as stone axes and chisels, dating back over 3,000 years.
