Note:

  • All of the banks open from 7:30 – 11:30; 13:30 – 16:30 pm from Monday to Friday and Saturday morning from 7:30 – 11:30. They also close on the Vietnam public holidays.
  • Bring your passport when you want to exchange your money with the banks. Other exchange currency points such as gold shop; money changer, tourist agents…do not require your passport submission.

Tips when you do an exchange money in Vietnam

  • The 20,000 VND note and 500,000 VND note look quite similar in their color. You need to pay attention and calculate the amount of VND when you receive it. It’s vital to check again and get a receipt of the transactions in case you find errors. Once you leave the exchange point, it will be hard for you to make a complaint.
  • There are many exchange currency spots in Ho Chi Minh, especially in the tourist areas, so you should turn around and check the rate with some shops before changing your money.
  • Take a quick look at currency converter online such as google.com; xe.com; vietcombank.com.vn … to know roughly how much money you can get in VND when you exchange your money.
  • Make a plan for how much cash do you need as you probably hold a hefty amount of VND when you exchange a lot of cash, especially in USD, Euro, GBP …, at the same time.
  • There are some hotels, restaurants, tourist companies that are accepted payment by USD; Euro, and other popular currencies. But it will be more expensive than to pay in VND as their exchange rate is always lower than normal.
