Tips when you exchange money in Vietnam
- The 20,000 VND note and 500,000 VND note look quite similar in their color. You need to pay attention and calculate the amount of VND when you receive it. It’s vital to check again and get a receipt of the transaction in case you find errors. Once you leave the exchange point, it will be hard to file a complaint.
- There are many currency exchange spots in Ho Chi Minh, especially in the tourist areas, so you should turn around and check the rate with some shops before changing your money.
- Take a quick look at currency converters online, such as google.com, xe.com, vietcombank.com.vn, to roughly estimate how much money you can get in VND when you exchange your money.
- Make a plan for how much cash you need, as you probably hold a hefty amount of VND when you exchange a lot of cash, especially in USD, EUR, GBP, etc., at the same time.
- There are some hotels, restaurants, and tourist companies that accept payment in USD, Euro, and other popular currencies. But it will be more expensive than paying in VND, as their exchange rate is always lower than normal.
