Huyen Khong Cave

Huyen Khong Cave is situated on Thuy Son (Water Mountain) within the Marble Mountains (Ngu Hanh Son) scenic complex in Da Nang. It is one of the most remarkable caves in the area, impressing visitors with its spacious interior, high vaulted ceiling, and—most notably—beams of natural light streaming down from above.

Overview of Huyen Khong Cave

To enter Huyen Khong, visitors pass through Hoa Nghiem Cave and descend a flight of stone steps to reach the main chamber. Unlike many dark, enclosed caves, Huyen Khong features an airy structure. Natural openings in the vaulted ceiling allow light and air to filter in. At certain times of the day, sunlight pierces through these openings to illuminate the space below, creating a spectacular scene that is frequently captured in photographs of the Marble Mountains.
The interior resembles a massive natural temple enclosed by towering rock walls. A prominent feature is the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, positioned in a high, dignified spot.
To the left of the cave stands the shrine of Lady Ngoc Phi (Goddess of Fairies), where visitors pray for wealth and prosperity, alongside the shrine of Lady Loi Phi (Goddess of the Highlands), where people seek health and peace.
Further to the right lies the ancient Trang Nghiem Pagoda, built in 1825 and consisting of three chambers. The central chamber is dedicated to Guanyin (Avalokiteshvara), while the left chamber honors three figures—Guan Yu (Quan Cong), Guan Ping (Quan Binh), and Zhou Cang (Chau Xuong)—who symbolize virtue, wisdom, courage, and loyalty. Notably, the right chamber is dedicated to the Matchmaker Deities (Ong To and Ba Nguyet); here, young couples come to pray for love, hoping the Matchmaker will tie the “red thread” of destiny to ensure a lifetime of happiness.
Ultimately, the most captivating aspect of Huyen Khong Cave is the harmonious blend of rock formations, natural light, and sacred worship space. As sunlight streams through openings in the cave ceiling, beams of light stand out against the darkness, illuminating the rock walls and altars. The scene shifts with the time of day and weather conditions, ensuring that each visit offers a unique experience.
