Tang Chon Cave

Tang Chon Cave is located on Thuy Son Mountain, part of the Ngu Hanh Son scenic complex, Da Nang. Located right near Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc, the cave is a convenient stop on the journey to explore the system of ancient pagodas, caves, and special landscapes of the Marble Mountains.

Overview of Tang Chon Cave

The name “Tang Chon” , in Vietnamese, means containing all the truths of the universe. Right at the cave entrance, the three words “Tang Chon Cave” are clearly written; the inside of the cave is like a small valley about 10m long and about 7m wide; the inside is airy thanks to the hole leading to the sky through the Thien Long Coc gate at Wind Cave. The cave is dedicated to Shakyamuni Buddha and the Saints.

In the middle of the cave is Tam Vi temple, which worships 3 figures: Daode Tianzun in the middle, Vajrapani on the right, and Holy Mother of Linh Sơn on the left. The cave also includes 5 small caves: Tam Thanh cave, Gio cave, Ray cave (also known as Adida cave), Chiem Thanh cave, and Ban Co cave.

Tam Thanh Cave is a tall statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, with a reclining Buddha statue behind it. To the right of Tam Thanh Cave is the Wind Cave, and to the left is Champa Cave.

Champa Cave is semicircular and 3m wide. The cave path is dark and rough. Inside stand 2 stone sculptures of sandstone guardians (0.9m long) in the style of Cham art. The statues are elaborately carved, showing that the Cham people were present here and worshiped Buddha very early.

The Wind Cave has a natural opening that connects to Thien Long Cave, bringing wind and light inside. Ban Co Cave still has an intact stone chessboard that records the chess-playing vestiges of the ancient saints.

The cave’s natural space also serves as a place of worship. Instead of being completely separated from the rocky mountains, statues and altars appear between natural cliffs. This combination creates Tang Chon’s unique feature: a natural cave that is also a spiritual space.
