Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc, often referred to as Linh Ung Pagoda on Ngu Hanh Son (Marble Mountains), is one of Da Nang’s most renowned pagodas. It is situated on Thuy Son (Water Mountain), the largest and most visited peak within the Ngu Hanh Son scenic complex. Unlike Linh Ung Pagoda on the Son Tra Peninsula, known for its Guanyin (Quan The Am) statue facing the sea, Linh Ung Non Nuoc exudes an ancient, tranquil beauty rooted in the region’s long history.

Overview of Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc 

Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc, also known as Non Nuoc Pagoda or the Ngoai (Outer) Pagoda, is the oldest of the three Linh Ung pagodas in Da Nang, with a history dating back to the 17th century. Throughout its existence, the pagoda has borne various names and undergone numerous renovations. While the passage of time, war, and natural elements have altered some architectural features, the pagoda remains a vital part of local Buddhist life.

The pagoda’s grounds embody the classic characteristics of Vietnamese Buddhist architecture, featuring tiled roofs, traditional decorative motifs, Buddha statues, and an open courtyard. In front of the Three-entrance gate lies a representation of Lumbini Garden, recreating the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha.

From this vantage point, one can gaze out at the panoramic view of the azure waters of Non Nuoc Beach and its long stretch of sand bathed in golden sunlight. Inside, the main sanctuary features a central hall designed in the traditional Chinese script (一).

To the right lie the Ancestral House, guest quarters, and lecture hall, while to the left stand the Guanyin Pavilion, built over a pond, and a tower. At the center of the main hall stands a statue of Shakyamuni Buddha, flanked by statues of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva. Numerous other exquisitely carved statues also stand there, including the Eighteen Arhats, the two Dharma Protectors, and Maitreya Buddha.

Notably, the exterior of Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc features a colossal 10-meter-tall statue of Shakyamuni Buddha; seated with his back against the mountain and facing the pagoda, the statue exudes a majestic presence.

Another prominent structure within the complex is the Xa Loi Tower. Built in 1997, this hexagonal, seven-story tower stands 28 meters tall and houses 200 statues of Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, and Arhats.

Behind the pagoda lies Tang Chon Cave, measuring 10 meters long and 7 meters wide, and containing a cement statue depicting Shakyamuni Buddha entering Nirvana.

Despite the nation’s many ups and downs, Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc has preserved its ancient architectural charm and unique, serene atmosphere. It has since been recognized as a National Historical and Cultural Relic.

Visitors can reach Linh Ung Pagoda – Non Nuoc either by climbing stone steps or taking an elevator. Many choose to walk up to fully appreciate the poetic, picturesque scenery of Thuy Son Mountain, then take the elevator down to relax while enjoying the panoramic views. The current ticket price is 15,000 VND per person per trip.
