Overview Lady Thien Hau Temple in My Xuyen 

The Lady Thien Hau Temple is located at 20 Phan Dinh Phung Street, My Xuyen Ward. This is the area where many Chinese pagodas, temples, and assembly halls are located, in which Thien Hau Soc Trang Temple is a prominent religious structure with many unique architectural features.

Lady Thien Hau Temple is an ancient temple that has existed for more than 100 years. This temple was started to be built in the summer of 1893.

According to historical records, Lady Thien Hau, also know as Mazu or Matsu, surnamed Lam, given name Mac, was from My Chau village, Bo Dien district, Hung Hoa prefecture, Fujian province, China, born on March 23, 960 (AD). Since childhood, Lady Thien Hau showed her innate ability in the field of astronomy, often looking at the stars to predict the weather, helping fishermen in the area. Later, people who went to sea remembered her, often saw her wearing a red shirt flying over the sea and saving people in distress, so they drew her portrait to worship and pray for her protection and safety.

Since its construction, Lady Thien Hau Temple has undergone many renovations, most notably in 1974. Currently, this temple is very spacious and majestic with many unique main and secondary works.

Like other famous Chinese temples in Can Tho, Lady Thien Hau temple in My Xuyen is distributed in the shape of the letter tam, consisting of three rooms with roofs covered with yin and yang tiles parallel to each other in the traditional style.

As soon as you step through the temple gate, you will immediately see the image of two dragons wriggling around a gourd on the roof, in front of the temple are the two words “福 ” and “曾” (meaning to increase luck).

In addition, another special feature is the image of animals and seafood carved and painted in wood by the talented hands of Chinese craftsmen, extremely skillful and vivid. In addition, on both sides of the wall, there are two large reliefs of Thanh Long (Azure Dragon) and Bach Ho (White Tiger), creating a highlight, impressing visitors from near and far.

The main hall area is built and decorated in a typical architectural style, especially the inside with a solemn and sacred space in true Chinese architecture. The center worships gods revered by the community, with the statue of Thien Hau in the middle.

The altars are separated by two sets of bronze eight treasures. This arrangement also helps create a separate path for visitors when entering to worship.
