King Le Dai Hanh Temple is one of the famous tourist attractions in Ninh Binh. With its ancient mossy beauty but no less mysterious, King Le Temple always attracts many domestic and foreign tourists to visit.
Located in the central area of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, King Le Dai Hanh Temple is an important historical relic of the World Cultural Heritage – Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex (Ninh Binh). This is the place to worship King Le Dai Hanh, Queen mother Duong Van Nga and some other historical figures of the Early Le Dynasty.
The temple was built in the 17th century, with an architecture similar to the nearby King Dinh Tien Hoang Temple but on a smaller scale and with some differences in architectural decoration.
According to legend, King Le Temple was built on the old foundation of the royal palace in Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. To confirm, in 1998, archaeologists excavated an area of 200 square meters in the south of the temple grounds. The results of the excavation did not disappoint the archaeologists. At a depth of 0.95 meters, traces of the foundation of a massive palace dating back to around the 10th century were revealed.
Hundreds of ancient artifacts were found here, typically the exquisitely decorated floor tiles, vividly crafted mandarin duck statues, stone steles with intact inscriptions, etc.
These relics still carry the typical cultural colors of the nation, which are the basic premises for Vietnamese culture to develop brilliantly in the following period.
Currently, the temple of King Le Dai Hanh has three buildings including: Bai Duong, Thieu Huong, and Chinh Cung. This temple has a low shape, the beams, columns and many large gilded red-painted characters create an ancient and majestic but no less magnificent and mysterious look.
In which, the statue of King Le Dai Hanh is placed on a stone pedestal in the middle room of the Chinh Cung. The statue of King Le sits on the throne, wearing a Binh Thien hat, with a dignified and majestic expression. The room to the left of the statue of King Le Dai Hanh is where the statue of Queen mother Duong Van Nga is placed. The remaining room to the right is placed on a stone pedestal with the statue of King Le Ngoa Trieu – the 5th son of King Le Dai Hanh and the 3rd king of the Early Le Dynasty.
The main road leading to the temple is paved with clean bricks, surrounded by a rockery and a flower garden facing each other. The temple of King Le Dai Hanh is a typical symbol representing the unique architectural and carving art of the 17th century that is still preserved today.
