The Phu Yen Museum is one of the representative cultural works, preserving valuable historical, cultural, and human artifacts from the South Central coastal region of Vietnam. More than just a place to display artifacts, the museum acts as a “living history book,” allowing visitors to journey back in time to explore the formation and development of Phu Yen from prehistoric times to modern life. With thousands of valuable artifacts, unique architectural spaces, and many attractive exhibition themes, it has become an unmissable destination for those who love history, archaeology, and national culture.

The main building of the Museum is a three-story structure, with the following functional spaces: the first floor, in addition to the reception area, visitor reception, and administrative area, is dedicated to the artifact storage and exhibition space; the second floor is entirely for exhibition space; and the third floor is dedicated to the Museum’s educational activities. The design concept is inspired by the image of a boat sailing out to sea – a symbol of the exploration and development of Phu Yen province and the aspirations of the local people. The building’s facade incorporates motifs bearing the hallmarks of Vietnamese culture, such as bronze drums, the Lac bird, and the image of King Hung’s hat, creating a solemn yet approachable beauty.

Inside, visitors will clearly feel the modernity in the organization of the exhibition space. The lighting system, information boards, display cases for artifacts, and exhibition areas are arranged scientifically, making the visit easier and more engaging.

In addition to the indoor exhibition area, the museum also has an outdoor exhibition space for models of traditional architecture, large-scale artifacts, and folk cultural performances.

Rich Collection of Artifacts

Currently, the Phu Yen Museum houses nearly 6,400 artifacts and documents of historical and cultural value, of which about 1,200 are on permanent display. This is a valuable source of information for scientific research as well as for educating the younger generation about traditions.

The artifacts are divided into many different groups, comprehensively reflecting the development process of the Phu Yen region through different periods.

Archaeological Artifacts

This area attracts much attention from tourists. Artifacts such as stone xylophones, stone trumpets, stone axes, stone tools, and artifacts excavated from archaeological sites contribute to recreating the life of ancient inhabitants thousands of years ago.

In particular, the Phu Yen stone xylophone is considered one of the unique ancient musical instruments of Vietnam, demonstrating the technical skill and rich spiritual life of prehistoric inhabitants.

Cham Pa Culture
Phu Yen was once a land with a long-standing presence of the Cham Pa civilization. Therefore, the museum possesses many stone sculptures, statues of deities, reliefs, architectural works, and ceramic artifacts in the distinctive Cham art style.

Among them, the Kala Nui Ba Relief stands out – an artifact recognized as a National Treasure, with great historical, artistic, and archaeological value.
Nguyen Dynasty Artifacts
The museum also preserves many artifacts from the Nguyen Dynasty such as royal decrees, seals, ancient coins, ceramics, administrative artifacts, and many documents reflecting the management of Phu Yen under the Nguyen Dynasty.

These artifacts contribute to helping viewers better understand the administrative system, economic life, and culture of the locality during the feudal period.
Revolutionary and Resistance Artifacts
This is an emotionally rich exhibition space, showcasing hundreds of images, documents, weapons, and personal belongings of soldiers and people of Phu Yen during the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism.
Thematic exhibitions on the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea, Vung Ro Wharf, the revolutionary struggle of the people of Phu Yen, and stories of local heroes and martyrs vividly recreate a glorious period in the nation’s history.
Scientific and Engaging Exhibition Space
The exhibition content at the Phu Yen Museum is structured chronologically to help visitors easily follow the historical developments of this land.
The three main themes include:

• Ancient History of Phu Yen.

• Revolution and Resistance.

• Contemporary Life.

The chronological arrangement gives viewers an overall view of the changes in Phu Yen from prehistoric times, the Champa period, the feudal period, the war period to the construction and development of today. In addition to original artifacts, the museum also uses maps, models, documentary images, films, and information boards to enhance visual appeal and make knowledge more accessible to visitors.
Not only serving tourists, the Phu Yen Museum is also a practical learning location for students and researchers.

After visiting the museum, visitors can combine their visit with a trip to Nhan Tower, Nghinh Phong Square, Tuy Hoa Beach, Nhan Mountain, or enjoy famous local specialties such as tuna eye soup, banh hoi with pork offal, banh canh with chives, and blood cockles from O Loan Lagoon.
