Ban Co Peak

Ban Co Peak is a renowned viewpoint on the Son Tra Peninsula in Da Nang, situated at an elevation of approximately 700 meters above sea level. From this vantage point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of Da Nang city, the coastline, and the East Sea.

Overview of Ban Co Peak

The name “Ban Co” (Vietnamese: Bàn Cờ; meaning “Chessboard”) comes from a local legend. Legend says two immortals descended to Son Tra to play chess. Their match dragged on for days without a clear winner; however, a momentary lapse in concentration caused one of them to make a wrong move and lose. The victor departed, leaving the other behind to sit and ponder the game at the chessboard. Today, a statue of the deity De Thich (Sakra), seated beside a stone chessboard, stands at the summit, serving as an iconic landmark and a popular photo spot for visitors.

The journey to Ban Co Peak is an exciting part of the experience. The road winds along the mountainside, passing through Son Tra’s lush green forests and offering stunning sea views. This area is also home to the red-shanked douc langur, a rare primate species that serves as a natural symbol of Son Tra.

The best time to visit Ban Co Peak is in the morning, when the weather is cooler and visibility is clearer. On clear days, the view from the summit reveals the city stretching along the coast, creating one of Da Nang’s most impressive landscapes.
