Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda is the first pagoda built in the northern border region of Cao Bang province. This place attracts many tourists as its sacredness and unique Buddhist architecture along with the peaceful, pristine natural scenery.
The pagoda in the remote border area
Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda is located halfway up Phia Nham mountain, about 500m from Ban Gioc waterfall, in Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province. This is the first pagoda built in the border area of the country.
Inaugurated on December 15, 2014, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda has a main view overlooking the entire Ban Gioc fall. From the pagoda’s location, you can admire the rice fields, the white water of the majestic Ban Gioc fall amidst the mountains, clouds and sky.
The pagoda is known to visitors not only for its great spiritual role but also as a famous tourist destination with a very special location.
An unique architecture of the pagoda
Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda was built in the traditional Vietnamese pagoda architecture style with familiar materials such as bricks and tiles, ironwood, the roof in the traditional Vietnamese pagoda style and the system of letters and parallel sentences.

At Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda, there is a shrine to worship the local hero – Nung Tri Cao, a historical figure with great military talent, who made great contributions to protecting the northern border of the country. This character is considered a symbol of history and culture in Cao Bang.
In particular, visitors can witness the giant bell, made of bronze, weighing about 1.5 tons. This is one of the famous highlights of the pagoda.
Although located right next to a world-famous scenic spot, Ban Gioc Waterfall, Phat Tich Truc Lam Ban Gioc Pagoda has a very quiet space, truly a Buddhist land.
