Thi Tuong Lagoon, also known as Ba Tuong Lagoon, is known as the “sea lake in the middle of the plain”, an ideal destination for those who want to find a peaceful place. Thi Tuong Lagoon is located in 3 communes: Cai Nuoc, Tran Van Thoi and Phu Tan. The lagoon was formed from the alluvial deposits of My Binh River, Ong Doc River and many other canals. Thi Tuong lagoon has a water surface area of about 700 hectares, stretching 12km, the widest place is 2km, the deepest place is 1.5m, leading to the Gulf of Thailand, this place owns a vast, peaceful river scene and has the typical features of the southernmost land of the country.

The lagoon consists of 3 main lagoons: Inner lagoon, Middle lagoon and Outer lagoon, of which Middle lagoon is the largest. The characteristic of the lagoon is different from ponds and lakes in depth, if the middle lagoon is very deep, in some places it is up to 10 meters deep, then the upper and lower lagoons are very shallow, not reaching the head of a person. The water level on the lagoon changes often according to the tide from 0.7m to 1.5m, making it very safe for tourists.

The unique highlight of Thi Tuong Lagoon is the simple huts built by the people on the water surface for farming and living. These “lonely houses” create a picture that is both realistic about life and romantic, evoking a feeling of separation from the hustle and bustle of the city.

The lives of people around Thi Tuong lagoon are closely linked to the water, closely linked to natural aquatic resources. Because of its special structure and connection to the sea, the vast water area of nearly 10km long is always full of food for aquatic species to grow. Not only taking advantage of the natural resources of fish, shrimp, blood cockles, and mussels living in the lagoon to feed their families; Thi Tuong fishermen also rely on the water flow to develop the economy.

They use the water surface area to raise giant tiger prawns and Ca Mau crabs. These are two types of seafood with high economic value, firmly established in the list of Vietnamese specialties.
On the lagoon, there are many rows of large and small stilt houses scattered, each house is about 100 m apart, that distance is the boundary of each household working in the seafood exploitation here. Each hamlet is like a “small village” lying exposed on the vast water surface.
