Sa Dec Flower Village, Dong Thap
Sa Dec Flower Village is located in Tan Quy Dong Commune, Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province. This is a traditional craft village for hundreds of years, located on the banks of the Tien River, which is windy all year round, rich in alluvium, full of sunlight and is known as the land of ornamental flowers.
In the early 20th century, the village had only a few households working in the profession with the purpose of serving decorative flowers for the traditional Tet holiday. Realizing that the flowers bloom beautifully because of the fertile alluvial soil deposited by the Tien River, the people have multiplied the flower growing model into an entire craft village.
Currently, the village has an area of about 500 hectares with more than 2,300 households growing about 2,500 species of ornamental flowers. Unlike most other flower growing areas, the hundred-year-old flower village impresses visitors with the image of flower beds that “do not touch the ground”. The flower pots here are arranged or hung on bamboo and rattan racks higher than the ground, with shallow water flowing along the beds below. During the flood season, farmers use boats to row between the rows to take care of the flowers.
