Overview of Hang Nga Villa in Da Lat

Hang Nga Villa, also known as Crazy House, is located near Xuan Huong Lake, within a spacious garden of over 3,000 square meters comprising two traditional communal houses and four tree-trunk-shaped villas made of reinforced concrete.

Hang Nga Villa

The villa was begun in 1990 (and is now largely complete) by architect Dang Viet Nga, when she decided to move from Hanoi to Dalat. According to architect Ms. Nga, the Hang Nga villa carries a message of environmental protection, encouraging people to reconnect with nature. Currently, she is continuing to expand the “bizarre” villa, with unfinished sections, including the Central Highlands communal house modeled after the traditional clothing of ethnic minority women. She also hopes to transform Hang Nga Villa into a true nature reserve, interspersed with architectural structures characteristic of the Da Lat mountains and forests.

The “bizarre” architecture of the Hang Nga Villa (Crazy House)

The Hang Nga Villa in Da Lat comprises many buildings, guesthouses, galleries, and cafes with a unique style. The structure features numerous caves, bizarre furniture, winding staircases and corridors, and large-scale animal-shaped walls. Inside the villa, there are no straight angles or lines.

The most striking feature of this structure is that the space, staircases, corridors, and furniture seem to have been melted at high temperatures and then frozen in strange shapes. Between the buildings is a system of tree roots and concrete knots; giant spiderwebs made from wire.

Besides the unique architectural space for visitors to explore, the Hang Nga Villa also contains rooms that look exactly like old tree trunks but are fully equipped with luxury hotel amenities. If staying here, visitors can experience open spaces on all four sides of the room, feeling as if they are living in a treehouse, with rooms named after animals such as kangaroos, tigers, bears, pheasants, and monkeys…

The rooms and spaces in Hang Nga Villa are all connected by a system of staircases. Remarkably, the staircases are shaped from concrete and steel but resemble trees, winding and curving, providing visitors with a fascinating experience.
