Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park covers over 30,000 hectares and offers significant potential for flora, fauna, and ecotourism, attracting an increasing number of visitors. It has become one of the leading ecotourism and outdoor recreation destinations in Vietnam’s Southeast region.
Overview of Lo Go-Xa Mat National Park
Lo Go Xa Mat National Park features a highly diverse ecosystem with numerous rare and endangered plant and animal species. This is the home and refuge for thousands of species, including those listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the Red Data Book of the World.
According to statistics, Lo Go – Xa Mat National Park has 58 species of reptiles, 23 species of frogs, 88 species of Mekong River fish, 128 species of insects, and many rare animals such as the black-shanked douc, Indochinese silver douc, Stump-tailed macaque, pig-tailed macaque, long-tailed macaque, sun bear, dhole, Pygmy slow loris, and slow loris.

In addition, the National Park is home to many rare waterbird species, such as the Painted stork, Lesser adjutant, Asian openbill, Siamese fireback, Germain’s peacock-pheasant, and Grey-cheeked tit-babbler. It is also a stopover for Sarus cranes on their migration route from the Mekong Delta to their breeding grounds in Cambodia.

In recent years, the National Park established a Wildlife Rescue Center (under the Department of Conservation Science and International Cooperation) that rescues and cares for more than 13 species of wild animals, with hundreds of individuals. Among them, many species have been successfully bred and are thriving, including the Otter, Yellow-cheeked gibbon, wildcat, Osprey, Siamese fireback, Elongated tortoise, Reticulated python, Crocodile, Oryctolagus, and Junglefowl. Most of the animals were confiscated by forest rangers from individuals illegally hunting within the park.
How to get there?
If you are coming from Ho Chi Minh City, it is easy to reach this national park. You can choose to travel by private vehicle, such as a motorbike or a car. Alternatively, you can travel by bus from bus stations in the city, such as Eastern Bus Station, Tan Son Nhat Airport, or other districts.

The ticket price will range from 100,000 to 250,000 VND/ticket/one way, depending on the departure point and bus type. After arriving at Tay Ninh bus station, you can take bus route number 07 from Tay Ninh Bus Station to Xa Mat Border Gate, choosing the stop at the Headquarters of the Lo Go Xa Mat National Park Management Board.

Many tourists are interested in what they can eat while visiting Lo Go Xa Mat National Park. They serve set meals with simple yet incredibly delicious dishes, such as braised fish in a clay pot, sour fish soup, and stir-fried wild vegetables. Prices range from 60,000 to 100,000 VND per set.

Also, don’t forget to try the Vietnamese savory pancake (banh xeo) with wild vegetables. Each pancake costs 20,000-25,000 VND. The whole grilled wild boar is another dish you should try. The price is per kilogram, from 180,000 to 200,000 VND/kg.
