Overview of Hang Rai
Possessing magnificent natural scenery and a unique waterfall cascading into the sea, Hang Rai in Khanh Hoa leaves anyone who sets foot there in awe.
Hang Rai is located in Vinh Hai Ward, Khanh Hoa Province, south of Vinh Hy Bay, at the foot of Nui Chua National Park, about 35km from Phan Rang Ward. The name Hang Rai comes from the fact that it is home to many otter species; if lucky, visitors may spot otters in groups searching for food or returning to their caves to rest.

A second explanation stems from the presence of many otter trees planted here, a type of tree whose oil is used to paint boats to help prevent water leakage at sea.
Hang Rai is formed from ancient coral rock, situated close to the sea edge, with the coral protruding above the water like a giant rock slab. The coral formations create a rugged, uneven surface with jagged rocks and pits, resembling the surface of Mars or the Moon.

The climate in Hang Rai is divided into two distinct seasons: rainy and dry. The dry season lasts from January to mid-September, while the rainy season runs from the end of September to December.
Therefore, the ideal time to visit is from January to September. During this period, the average temperature is only 24-25 degrees Celsius, and the average rainfall is 700-800mm. With dry and pleasant weather, visiting the site becomes more convenient, allowing tourists to have a more complete and safer experience.

This ancient coral reef is a highly valued coral platform, both geologically and historically. Approximately 1,800 years ago, the sea level was 20 meters higher than it is now. One thousand years later, the sea gradually receded, revealing the shape of the ancient coral reef as it exists today.
If you take a stroll around this area, you will appreciate the skillful sculpting of nature’s hand, with a wonderful blend of sea and mountains, and enjoy a panoramic view of the ancient coral reef from above.

Below the edge of the ancient coral reef lies another rocky platform to the north, known as Da Muoi (Salt Rock) Beach. According to locals, each time the tide rises, seawater overflows onto the rocks and then recedes, leaving water pooled in small rock cavities. This water, exposed to the intense sunlight of Khanh Hoa province, evaporates, leaving behind salt deposits.
This salt rock platform is also special because, when the tide rises, water overflows onto the rocks and, due to the slope, flows back down into the sea, creating the image of fascinating waterfalls on the water’s surface. Another unique feature of this rock formation is that its color changes with the sunlight and sea level throughout the day.

The one-of-a-kind sea waterfall at Hang Rai attracts many professional photographers. After immersing themselves in the clear blue seawater, visitors can relax on the rocks, watch the white waves crashing, and enjoy delicious homemade seafood.
If you like exploration and adventure, you can cross some rocks, navigate through some rocky outcrops, and admire the dead coral reefs that act as wave barriers, with protruding and recessed rocks creating various large and small caves.

At sunrise, the first rays of the new day pierce through the clouds, scattering sparkling light onto the sea. The entire sea area seems to light up, stretching out to welcome the brilliant golden hues, full of life.
Not only the sunrise, but also the romantic and beautiful sunset at Hang Rai captivates visitors. The setting sun gradually melts into the ocean, casting its last rays of light in a vibrant red hue across the area. Hang Rai takes on a poetic, gentle beauty, with waves softly lapping against the shore, lulling travelers’ souls to sleep.
