Overview about Long My Historical Site

Long My Historical Site is located in Vinh Vien commune, about 60km southwest from Can Tho city center. Long My relic site is located between U Minh land and Hau Giang river area. About 200 years ago, this place was a Melaleuca and Mangrove forest. During the two resistance wars against France and the US, Long My was chosen as the revolutionary base of Hau Giang province (currently merged to Can Tho City)  and the Southwest region of Long My, a “battlefield” where we and the enemy fought for every inch of land during the two resistance wars.

Upon arriving in Long My, tourists may visit the temple dedicated to Uncle Ho (President Ho Chi Minh) in Luong Tam commune, built by the Party Committee and the army and people of Long My in 1969 when he passed away. The temple has been renovated many times to be more spacious with many fences, on a 1-hectare land area. Every year on May 19 and September 2, a large number of tourists from inside and outside the province come here to visit and commemorate.

Long My has a complex in which visitors may find interesting things about the glorious victory in the two resistance ware. There are also facilities for entertainment and recreation.

Coming to Long My, not only can you visit the relics, but you can also see the storks and unique birds typical of the Southern river region. This is a unique stork garden of Can Tho with tens of thousands of storks.

According to records, the most typical birds in here includes black-crowned night heron, great cormorant and painted stork (a precious bird of the crane family listed in the Vietnam Red Book). In particular, there is also a species of oriental darter, also known as the snakebird, with nearly 30 individuals.
